Looking California and Feeling Minnesota

On Thursday I will be off to the Twin Cities for Mr. and Mrs. Gabrielli's annual Chilli Cook Off.  I will return on Sunday hopefully with a first place ribbon.  I guess you have to make chilli and not just drink to get the ribbon, so maybe I'll just return ribbonless.  To sum it all up, the blog will be on break untill at least Sunday.  Please have a happy and safe week and weekend ahead.  I'll see you all very soon.

2 Year Anniversary Party Scheduled

That's right, the celebration of the blog turning 2 years old will be held Saturday Septmeber 22, 2012.  I know there were some complaints that the 1 year anniversary scheduling did not provide ample time for a reply to the invite, so I've decided to give you a little more time next year.  It's my mistake for waiting untill August 15th of this year to inform all of you of the party that was scheduled for September 24th.  I now know my followers are either too busy to keep that date free, lazy fucks who can't respond to an invite, or quit following months ago.  No matter what the case, I believe a 365 day advance notice of next years party should be plenty of time for all of you fucks to keep the date clear and pencil it in your calendar.

2 YEAR BLOG ANNIVERSARY PARTY TO BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2012!  BE THERE OR GO FUCK YOURSELF!

Blog Anniversary Party Cancelled and Pearl Jam Twenty Review

The party is cancelled, now on to the important shit.
Pearl Jam Twenty the documentary by Cameron Crowe.  The film covers everything from Green River and Mother Love Bone up to present day interviews with members of Pearl Jam.  It is jam packed with never before seen footage the band did not even know existed.  It shows the bands ups, downs, and even shows their lighter side with a few laughs.  It's amazing to see the number and heights of stage dives the band, especially Mr. Vedder survived throughout their early career.  It appears that about from '91 to about '94 Vedder had been up in the rafters of just about every venue they played.  It covers the death of Kurt and how he and Vedder had actually made peace and liked each other before his death.  Some funny footage of Vedder and Cobain slow dancing backstage at the MTV Video Awards is also in the film.  If you go see this movie it will be hard to miss the point in the film where Vedder looks directly into the camera and says "fuck you Kevin".  Coincidence, I think not.  He heard about my blog is my guess.  Probably my favorite moment is the footage the band doesn't want you to see.  Around the time the movie Singles was released they were playing shows almost every night.  They finally had a well needed night off, when Cameron Crowe asked them to play the Singles Premiere party.  At this point in their career, the band said they had a hard time saying no, so they agreed to play the show.  Nobody in the band wanted to play this show and as a result ended up getting completely wasted.  I think it was Jeff that said at this show there was a bottle of tequilla backstage which they never had, and it was gone before the show.  Not many of the members of the band would talk much about this show, and the footage tells you why.  They are stumbling all over the stage and Vedder sounds like a freshmen at SIU after his first kegger.  It does touch on the times the band almost broke up, including the 2000 show at Rockslide where 9 fans died.  In the end though, it seems as if the band is ready for the next 20.  A great look at the bands history from many different perspectives.  Well worth watching.

Anniversary Week At The Blog!

As many of my dedicated followers know, this coming Sunday, September, 25 marks the 1 year anniversary of the blog.  There will be a party at the home of the blog's author on Saturday the 24th to celebrate this event.  The blog has been through a lot in the last year.  Probably my favorite post, moment, and one of the highest peaks as far as hits go, this blog has seen was the reporting live from the scene of a shooting.  This shooting was reported here first, before the Sun Times, before the Tribune, and it gave this blog it's accreditation it's known to have today.  It couldn't have been done without my dedicated followers though.  I wouldn't be here without you, and this week is dedicated to all of you.  Thanks to all of you.

In no particular order, thank you:

Guiness Oyster Festival

So the blog will be venturing out once again to one of it's authors favorite festivals.  We will be attending on Friday to see Alien Ant Farm, a band that hasn't had a hit since the first Oyster Fest I attended many moons ago.  I wish I could be there Saturday to see Men Without Hats and Human League, but I have a wedding to attend.  For those of you that can make it Saturday, enjoy and watch out for the girl working as a waitress in a cocktail bar.

Matthew Sweet Bottom Lounge 10/13 & 10/14

That's right, it's another blog approved outing at The Bottom Lounge.  This one is scheduled for Friday October 14, 2011 to see the one and only Matthew Sweet.  He will be playing Thursday also, but I know my followers like to drink a lot and will need the next day off.  I haven't heard anything from Matthew in quite some time, but I do remember liking his older stuff.  Anyway, there will be more details to follow.  In the meantime, here's the last thing I remember him putting out:

Where You Get Love

Sick of Myself
A little older

Off He Goes

Well dedicated followers, it has come to that time.  I'm off to the Alpine Valley parking lot to pick up my tickets for the weekend and probably by some cool shit from the early merch. tent.  I'll be broke when I leave that tent I'm sure.  After I get my tickets, it's off to the campground to put my tent up soaked in sweat and then enjoy many beers till the festivities begin.

I will return sometime after the holiday for a complete rundown of how the shows went.

See you on the flipside,
